Transform Your Home with Green Wallpaper: Inspiration for Every Room

Green wallpaper as well as green paint and furniture has become increasingly popular within the world of interiors making it a natural choice for those looking to bring a bit of nature indoors. Green, the most refreshing and calming of all colours has a versatile range of hues from deep forest greens to soft sage tones. Its strong association with nature reminds us of the deep greens of woodland to the lush green of grass, a sign of growth, a symbol of life. It is even said that green has a harmonious power and can diffuse anxiety. Dark emerald green was named Pantone's colour of the year in 2013, and again in 2017 as the fresh apple green shade named "Greenery". Years later, green has proven itself to be one of the favourite colours in the interior design world.

Go Green - A Guide to Styling with Green Wallpaper and Green Interiors

The grounding effect of green makes it ideal for spaces where relaxation is key, like bedrooms or living rooms and is especially great in urban settings to bring the outside in.

For colour lovers, white walls are, quite frankly, boring. Nothing makes another colour pop more than another colour. Plants look even more fresh and juicy against a green wall.

Before you paint your walls or wallpaper them with green (and any other colour really) think about which direction the wall is facing. Is there plenty of natural light in the room? How will the light hit the wall? For example, you can use a lighter green on the walls, but for wall panelling or tiles, if you are doing a bathroom, as well as accessories and furniture (the trend is velvets), choose the same green in a darker shade or add wooden furniture for an even more natural look.

Choosing the Right Shade of Green

We certainly understand how doubting it can be to choose a colour palette and the right shade for your home. The colour palette green is undoubtedly closest to the heart of any Good & Craft Design creation, and the difficulty for wallpaper designer Danja is making up her mind and deciding which one of those amazing green hues to go for.

Sage Green: This soft, timeless green hue with grey undertones is easy to pair with other neutrals. Sage green works well for minimalist or vintage-inspired spaces, but can also look traditional when combined with grand furniture.

Emerald Green: Rich and bold, emerald green (one of our favourite shades) adds depth to any space. It is equally modern and luxurious. A wonderful choice for bathrooms in combination with dark green tiles and wow-factor hallways paired with green wall panelling.

Olive and Moss Greens: These earthy tones with yellow undertones are perfect for rustic or bohemian interiors, looking great with natural furniture and decor made of brass, copper, wood or clay.

Deep Forest Green: A beautiful hue to create drama and sophistication, deep forest green creates a cosy atmosphere and is closely related to emerald green. It looks great in combination with darker woods and metallics such as brass and copper.

Green Wallpaper Styles to Consider

Coastal Prints: Nautical-themed wallpapers are a great choice for bathrooms creating a relaxing and serene ambience.

Tropical Prints: Jungle-inspired wallpapers featuring lush greens, colourful birds, and exotic flowers bring a sense of adventure and summer feeling to any room.

Floral and Botanical Prints: These nature-based designs are perfect for adding natural elements to any space. From big and bold blossoms to smaller elements in heritage-style designs inspired by classic pattern designers such as William Morris, green floral wallpaper fits both homes with modern and traditional interiors.

Styling Tips for Green Wallpaper and Interiors

Metallic Accents: Gold or brass accents can enhance green wallpaper and give rooms a touch of glamour.

Layering Green Hues: Combining different shades of green will create a cohesive, nature-inspired look.

Natural Elements: Wooden furniture, plants, and natural fibres enhance the green-themed look and will bring nature indoors.

Complement with Neutrals: Pair green wallpaper with neutral furnishings to keep the space balanced.

Team it up with Industrial Style: Green fits very well within the industrial style. It looks great among dark wood, leather furniture, steel, copper, and brass. Leafy green is a lovely earthy combination with antique furniture.

Embrace the look of half-walls of print: If you think that a room full of wallpaper will be too overwhelming, you can create half-walls of print by adding wallpaper above dado rails in hallways, wall panelling or bathroom tiles, or adding wallpaper to just some of the walls and painting the rest of the walls in a matching or complimentary shade.

Urban Jungle: Some people like to go all the way and create an urban jungle feeling with abundant usage of green, tropical patterns and plants - The more the better! For a maximal rainforest feeling combine a tropical statement wallpaper with a green-painted wall or emerald green sofa.

Best Rooms for Green Wallpaper

Hallways: Often overlooked, hallways and entryways are ideal for adding green wallpaper as a way to welcome warmth and style, or greeting guests with a bold-wall statement that has a wow factor.  Green wallpaper in entryways or hallways can also set a welcoming tone for the entire home, giving a preview of the decor style within. Go for a soft sage green for a subtle airy feel or heritage-inspired look, or rich emerald for a more striking impression. Bold floral designs work particularly well here, as they create visual interest in narrow spaces. If you are in doubt about adding wallpaper to your home, hallways (and powder rooms) are a great space to start as we only spend a short time within those spaces and these rooms therefore allow us to go bold and colourful without overwhelming the space.

Bathrooms: Bathrooms are an excellent place to experiment with patterns and deeper shades of green wallpaper, such as emerald or dark forest hues. These tones evoke a spa-like ambience and add an unexpected sophistication to smaller spaces. Coastal designs or tropical leaf prints can create a serene oasis, especially when paired with natural stone, or brass fittings. Green wallpaper in bathrooms not only elevates the space but also harmonizes beautifully with plants and other natural decor, enhancing the relaxing, natural theme. When hanging wallpaper in a bathroom, always check if your space has a good ventilation system and if the wallpaper is suitable to be hung in your room. If you are worried about moisture and you are lucky to have a laundry room or powder room (a fancy word for a second bathroom really without a shower), those are wonderful spaces to start with wallpaper. If you don't want to embrace to full pattern look why not add wallpaper to only one or two of the walls and paint the remaining walls in a matching colour? (This can also be a great alternative if you have a large room and are working on a budget)

We have a separate guide about hanging wallpaper in a bathroom, so you might have a look for some tips there.

Living Rooms and Dining Areas: Green wallpaper can lend a refined, nature-inspired feel to interiors, creating a beautiful backdrop for entertaining. For a serene atmosphere, lighter shades like sage green are ideal, especially in floral or botanical patterns that enhance a relaxed ambience. If the goal is a bolder, more opulent look, emerald or deep forest green wallpapers with intricate designs are particularly effective and can add depth and a sense of luxury. Darker green tones work especially well with wooden furniture, chandeliers, and metallic finishes, creating a timeless, elegant ambience that’s perfect for gatherings.

Bedrooms: Lighter greens like mint or sage provide a calming, airy feel and pair beautifully with light linens and minimal decor. For a more dramatic atmosphere, consider using darker greens, especially behind the bed, to create a feature wall that adds both texture and warmth. Botanical or floral green wallpaper adds a touch of romance and brings a piece of nature indoors, complementing the restful qualities of the space.

Alternatives for Wallpaper - Other Ways to embrace Green in your Interiors

If you do not feel comfortable (yet) to wallpaper a wall, try starting with smaller touches of green in your decor by adding just a hint of it. Think about using green tiles for the kitchen or bathroom, or just going with green accessories like industrial lamps, and furniture. Adding cushions, and other accessories, or sewing curtains in rich fabric featuring a bold pattern against a dark green background can introduce this tranquil hue into your space without the full commitment, allowing you to experience the mood-boosting qualities of green before embracing it more fully. Plants are also a great and inexpensive way to quickly change the atmosphere of a room. Whichever approach you take, green brings timeless style and rejuvenating energy to any interior, making it an excellent choice for creating a warm, inviting, and nature-inspired home.
